The image shows a doll made up as a skating carhop - a waitress in a drive-in burger bar who actually went out to the cars. In the 1950's, when Burger King broke new ground with carhops and a bit more style than the "Greasy Joe" places, roller skates were tried to help the carhops get around the parking area.
We actually had a Burger King in Claremont for a while in the early 1960s, just east of Bay View Terrace. I don't recall whether the carhops here had skates - I suspect not, there was a bit of a slope to the site. The doll is a piece of nostalgia reminding us of simpler and more naive times.
